Allgemeines:
Die Windenschwärmer wandert in jedem Jahr zwischen Mai und Juni in Mitteleuropa ein, wobei die Häufigkeit von Jahr zu Jahr stark schwankt. Die sich bei uns von August bis Oktober entwickelnde Nachfolgegeneration ist nicht überlebensfähig.
Kennzeichen:
Die Flügel sind grau gescheckt, so dass der Falter auf Baumrinde gut getarnt ist. Der Hinterleib ist an den Seiten rot-schwarz-weiß gestrichelt. Die Hinterflügel sind weißgrau und tragen 4 schwarze Bänder, von denen 2 dicht beieinander liegen. Die Falter haben einen Rüssel, der länger ist als der ganze Körper. Sie saugen im Flug.
