wikipedia -> Die unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Gasometer – praktisch Wahrzeichen des Bezirks – wurden unter dem Vorwand statischer Probleme, gegen den Widerstand von Denkmalschützern und einer der in der DDR seltenen Bürgerinitiativen, am 28. Juli 1984 gesprengt. Der für DDR-Zeiten starke zivile Widerstand sprach sich für eine kulturelle Nutzung aus, wurde aber ignoriert.
